The Byrne sphere pendant is most effective when used over a dining table, where the crystal effect can be seen from all seated positions. Centre the pendant over the table with the bottom of the fitting 750mm to 900mm above the surface. Use on a dimmer: at lower settings the prismatic effect of the K9 crystal is more visible and creates a stronger ambient mood.

A crystal chandelier makes an immediate impression in an entrance hall. The Byrne 50cm sphere has a maximum drop of 2,040mm, which covers double-height halls and stairwells effectively. The crystal scatters light at multiple angles from a single central point, which works well in tall spaces where a standard pendant would feel underwhelming.

In a living room, the Byrne semi-flush or ceiling versions work well where pendant drop clearance is limited. For standard 2.4m ceilings, the semi-flush format keeps the fitting flush enough to avoid head clearance issues while retaining the full crystal cluster effect. The French gold finish suits period and traditional interiors; polished chrome suits contemporary and open-plan spaces.

The Byrne range is regularly specified in hotel rooms, bars, restaurants and reception areas. The French gold semi-flush format is the most commonly used Byrne product in hospitality settings, as it provides strong crystal character without requiring high ceiling clearance. All Byrne fittings meet Class 1 protection requirements and are suitable for commercial installations.

For the Byrne range, dimmable G9 LED capsules are strongly recommended. The prismatic crystal effect is most pronounced when the lamp is dimmed to 20 to 40% of full output, as the surrounding ambient light drops and the refracted crystal light becomes visible. Warm white G9 LEDs at 2700K to 3000K are the standard choice for both chrome and gold Byrne fittings. The Byrne takes up to 10W per G9 position; using lower-wattage dimmable LEDs reduces heat within the crystal cluster.

Cool white G9 LEDs at 4000K to 6500K maximise the spectral spread of the K9 crystal, producing a sharper rainbow effect at prismatic edges. Warm white at 2700K to 3000K produces softer amber-tinted spectral throws that suit dining and living room environments. For polished chrome Byrne fittings, both cool and warm white work. For French gold fittings, warm white is the more cohesive choice as the gold frame and warm lamp temperature produce a unified amber glow rather than a colour contrast.
