The Ener-J Smart Flexi (SHA5357) at £49.00 + VAT is a battery doorbell and wired doorbell in one: it operates on its 5200mAh rechargeable battery (up to 120 days) or wires directly into an existing bell circuit for a continuous mains supply. The most flexible video doorbell in the range for properties that already have bell wire in place. USB chime included.

The DC010 complete kit is the right product when no push button or chime is installed. The DC012 and DC013 plug-in chimes are the right choice when an existing wireless push is in place and only the chime needs replacing or an additional chime is needed in a second room. Additional DC010 push buttons can also be added for properties with more than one entrance.

When a visitor presses the push button, it transmits a short radio signal (typically 433MHz) to the paired chime receiver indoors, which plays the selected ringtone. Video wireless doorbells add a camera to the push button and connect to the home Wi-Fi network, sending live video, motion alerts and two-way audio to a smartphone app. The Ajax Doorbell adds AI classification and a PIR sensor for more accurate alerting.

How long do wireless doorbell batteries last?

It depends on the product. A simple push transmitter like the Knightsbridge DC010 push button uses a 12V 23A battery lasting one to two years in typical use. The Ener-J Smart Flexi has a 5200mAh rechargeable battery providing up to 120 days per charge on motion-triggered recording. The Ajax Doorbell uses an AC/DC power supply as its primary source with a backup battery - batteries are not a recurring concern on a correctly installed Ajax unit.

Does a wireless doorbell need Wi-Fi?

Not all wireless doorbells need Wi-Fi. The Knightsbridge DC010 uses direct RF pairing between push and chime and does not require any Wi-Fi connection. Video doorbells - the Ener-J Smart Flexi, EZVIZ CS-DB1C and Ajax Doorbell - all connect to Wi-Fi because they stream live video and send push notifications to a smartphone app.

What is the difference between a wireless doorbell and a video doorbell?

A wireless doorbell is defined by how the signal travels: radio frequency between push and chime, no cable required. A video doorbell is defined by what the push unit contains: a camera, speaker and microphone for live viewing and two-way audio.
