Ecofloor Electric Underfloor Heating
Comfortable, Efficient Heating for Tile and Stone Floors
Ecofloor electric underfloor heating provides comfortable, evenly distributed warmth beneath tile and stone floors. The system uses a heating cable attached to a self-adhesive mesh, allowing it to be rolled out across the floor quickly and positioned around the shape of the room.
Each Ecofloor system is quoted to suit your individual room, helping ensure you receive the correct mat size, heat output and accessories for your installation.
Ecofloor is suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, living areas, conservatories and many other domestic applications.
Which Ecofloor Heating Mat Do I Need?
Ecofloor heating mats are available in two power outputs:

The 150W/m² mat is the standard choice for most internal rooms.
The more powerful 200W/m² mat is normally recommended for conservatories and other areas where additional heat output or a faster response may be required.
A heat-loss assessment may be necessary if the system is intended to act as the room’s primary heat source.
Ecofloor Mat Sizes and Electrical Loads
All Ecofloor mats are approximately 500mm wide. Different mat lengths are available to produce the required floor coverage.

Larger or unusually shaped areas can normally be covered using a carefully selected combination of mats.
Suitable Floor Finishes
Ecofloor is designed primarily for use beneath tile and natural stone finishes, including:
- Ceramic tiles
- Porcelain tiles
- Natural stone
- Marble
- Slate
- Limestone
- Quarry tiles
- Terracotta
The heating cable must be completely encapsulated in a suitable flexible tile adhesive or self-levelling compound. Always check that the selected adhesive, levelling compound and floor covering are approved for use with electric underfloor heating.
Suitable Subfloors
Ecofloor can be installed over suspended timber floors and solid concrete floors, provided the floor is correctly prepared and suitable for tiling.

Insulated tile backer board can significantly improve system performance by directing more heat upwards into the room. It can also shorten warm-up times and help reduce unnecessary energy consumption.
Typical Warm-Up Times
Actual warm-up times depend on the floor construction, insulation, tile material, tile thickness and room conditions.

These figures are intended as a general guide only. Insulation beneath the heating system has a major effect on both responsiveness and running efficiency.
Measuring Your Room
Ecofloor matting must only be installed across the usable floor area. It should not normally be positioned beneath fixed or floor-standing items that may trap heat, such as:
- Baths and shower trays
- Toilets
- Fitted kitchen units
- Fixed cabinets
- Floor-mounted sanitaryware
- Appliances without suitable airflow beneath them
Measure the available floor area carefully and deduct all permanently covered sections.
The heating cable itself cannot be shortened. The mesh backing can be carefully cut and turned to change direction, but the heating cable must never be cut, crossed or allowed to touch itself.
For this reason, the selected mat must fit within the available heated area. Never select a mat that is larger than the usable floor space.
As a general allowance for perimeter clearance and positioning:

Thermostatic Control
Ecofloor is controlled using a compatible underfloor-heating thermostat and floor-temperature sensor.
Programmable control allows the floor to heat at selected times throughout the day, helping maintain comfort without operating the system continuously. Depending on the chosen thermostat, control may include:
- Time and temperature scheduling
- Floor-temperature regulation
- Air-temperature monitoring
- Manual override
- Multiple daily heating periods
- Seven-day programming

Electrical and Installation Requirements
Ecofloor is supplied with installation instructions, which must be read fully before work begins.
The system requires suitable 30mA RCD protection, and its total electrical load must be considered when selecting the thermostat, protective device and associated wiring.
Multiple mats can be installed in one room and connected in parallel using a suitable wiring arrangement. Larger systems may require a contactor or another control arrangement depending on the combined electrical load.
The final electrical connection, testing and commissioning must be completed by a suitably qualified electrician in accordance with current wiring regulations. The heating mat should also be electrically tested before, during and after the floor covering is installed.
Can Ecofloor Be the Main Source of Heating?
Ecofloor can provide primary heating in a suitably insulated room when the available heated floor area and system output are sufficient to meet the calculated heat loss.
However, rooms with limited usable floor area, poor insulation or high heat loss may require supplementary heating. Conservatories and rooms with large glazed areas should be assessed particularly carefully.
A formal heat-loss calculation is recommended where Ecofloor will be relied upon as the room’s only heat source.
