Dahua IP & Eagle HDCVI Analogue CCTV
Harbro Electrical stocks Dahua IP CCTV cameras and Eagle Analogue HDCVI systems for trade installers across the North East. IP and analogue kits, NVRs, DVRs, outdoor bullet and turret cameras in stock at our Peterlee trade counter and available for UK mainland delivery.
The Fundamentals
CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) describes any system in which camera feeds are transmitted to a restricted set of monitors or a recording device, rather than broadcast. In a trade installation context, this means a defined set of cameras connected to a recorder, with the footage accessible locally or remotely via a network connection or mobile app.
Harbro Electrical stocks two wired product ranges. The Dahua IP CCTV range is a network-based system: cameras connect over CAT5e or CAT6 ethernet cable, draw power via PoE (Power over Ethernet), and record to an NVR (Network Video Recorder). The Eagle Analogue range uses HDCVI (High Definition Composite Video Interface) technology: cameras connect over standard coaxial cable with BNC connectors and record to a DVR (Digital Video Recorder). Harbro also stocks a wireless CCTV range for installations where running cable is impractical.
Both wired systems are designed for professional installation. Dahua IP CCTV suits new-build installations, commercial fit-outs, and situations where CAT6 infrastructure is either already in place or being laid as part of a wider first-fix. Eagle Analogue HDCVI suits retrofits and upgrades of existing analogue CCTV systems where coaxial cable is already installed and running new ethernet cable runs would add significant labour cost.
Both the Dahua and Eagle Analogue ranges include outdoor CCTV cameras rated for external installation (typically IP66 or IP67 with IR night vision). These are hardwired systems: for trade electrical installations, a wired CCTV system delivers continuous power, uninterrupted recording, and a stable connection that a wireless CCTV camera dependent on Wi-Fi cannot always guarantee. Where running cable is genuinely impractical, Harbro also stocks a wireless CCTV range. Most trade-grade wireless cameras still require a cabled power supply at each camera location, so the "wireless" element refers to video transmission, not a fully wire-free installation.
We also stock CCTV kits combining recorder, cameras, and cabling accessories in 4-channel and 8-channel configurations for both IP and analogue formats. Dahua CCTV kits are particularly suited to new-build and commercial installs; Eagle Analogue kits are the go-to for retrofits. Both are popular with trade electricians working across the North East who need to quote a complete system in a single trade order.
Trade account customers see their invoiced pricing on all CCTV SKUs. Call our Peterlee trade counter before a visit if you need to confirm stock on specific camera models or kit configurations.
IP CCTV vs Analogue CCTV
Both formats record surveillance footage. They differ in how video is transmitted, how cameras are powered, how footage is stored, and which installation types each suits best. Here is a direct comparison.

Frequently Asked
Questions trade customers ask at the counter before specifying a CCTV installation, answered directly.
IP CCTV transmits video as digital data over ethernet cable (CAT5e or CAT6). Cameras connect via RJ45 and draw power via PoE (Power over Ethernet), so a single cable from the NVR or PoE switch powers and connects each camera. Footage is recorded to an NVR (Network Video Recorder).
Analogue CCTV transmits video as an electrical signal over coaxial cable (RG59 or RG6) with BNC connectors. Each camera requires a separate power supply. Footage is recorded to a DVR (Digital Video Recorder). Modern analogue HD standards such as HDCVI (used in the Eagle Analogue range Harbro stocks) and HD-TVI achieve 5MP or higher resolution over existing coax, making them practical for retrofitting or upgrading installations where coaxial cable is already in place.
HDCVI (High Definition Composite Video Interface) and HD-TVI (High Definition Transport Video Interface) are both standards for transmitting high-definition video over standard coaxial cable. They were developed by different manufacturers: HDCVI is Dahua's standard, used in the Eagle Analogue CCTV range Harbro Electrical stocks. HD-TVI is a related standard used by other manufacturers.
From an installation standpoint, both are functionally similar: both run over RG59 or RG6 coaxial cable with BNC connectors, both deliver 5MP or higher resolution, and both are compatible with existing analogue CCTV cable infrastructure. If you are upgrading an existing analogue system and the cable is already in place, an HDCVI analogue system (Eagle Analogue) achieves full HD resolution without new cable runs, regardless of whether the original system was HDCVI, HD-TVI or standard definition analogue.
IP CCTV cameras use CAT5e or CAT6 ethernet cable with RJ45 connectors. A PoE switch or PoE NVR sends power and data over the same cable to each camera. The maximum cable run for PoE is 100 metres per IEEE 802.3af/at specification. For runs beyond 100m, a PoE extender is required. CAT6 is recommended for new installations to provide headroom for higher-resolution cameras and future-proofing.
Yes, if you are upgrading to an HDCVI analogue system. Eagle Analogue HDCVI cameras and DVRs use the same RG59 or RG6 coaxial cable and BNC connectors as older analogue CCTV systems. The existing cable runs can typically be kept, which substantially reduces the cost and disruption of an upgrade compared to installing new ethernet cable for an IP system.
If upgrading to IP CCTV, new CAT5e or CAT6 cable runs are required. Coax-to-ethernet adapters exist as a workaround for situations where running new cable is not practical, but these add cost and complexity. For most retrofit jobs where budget is a consideration, upgrading to Eagle Analogue HDCVI is the more cost-effective path.
Harbro Electrical CCTV kits are 4-camera configurations. The Dahua IP kit includes a 4-channel Eagle PoE NVR, 4 x Dahua 6MP Smart Dual Light turret cameras, and 4 x pre-made CAT5e ethernet cables. Flush-mount back boxes and ceiling mounting brackets are included. The Eagle Analogue kit includes a 4-channel Eagle DVR, 4 x Eagle 5MP HDCVI full-colour turret cameras, BNC coax cables, a multi-power lead, and a power supply adaptor. Junction back boxes are included.
Both kits are available with a pre-installed 2TB Toshiba surveillance hard drive or without (hard drive sold separately). The no-HDD versions allow the installer to specify the correct capacity. Ask at the trade counter if you need guidance on storage sizing.
Harbro Electrical stocks two Dahua IP camera resolutions. The standard model is the Dahua 6MP Smart Dual Light IP Security Camera (DH-IPC-HDW1639T-A-IL) at 6MP, available in white, grey and black at £55.00 + VAT. For higher-resolution requirements, the Dahua TiOC-Lite 4K (DH-IPC-HDW2849TMP-S-PV-0280B) provides 8MP (3840x2160) 4K Ultra HD at £115.00 + VAT. The TiOC Pro 6MP (DH-IPC-HDW3649HP-AS-PV-0280B-PRO) is the advanced option with WizColour full-colour night vision and SDL active deterrence at £140.00 + VAT. All three are PoE-powered turret cameras.
Yes. The Eagle 4CH and 8CH NVRs sold at Harbro Electrical are designed to pair with Dahua IP cameras. Both are supplied by the same manufacturer group. Full plug-and-play PoE detection, smart analytics, and camera management via the NVR interface are all confirmed with Dahua and Eagle IP camera combinations.
The Eagle NVRs are also ONVIF-compliant, meaning they can accept video streams from other ONVIF-compatible IP cameras from different manufacturers, though advanced features are most reliable with Dahua cameras on Eagle NVRs.
Eagle Analogue DVRs use HDCVI inputs via BNC. They are not IP NVRs and do not connect to IP cameras on the analogue BNC channels. Some hybrid DVR models support both HDCVI analogue and IP inputs, but confirm this with the specific model specification before purchase.
Yes. Harbro Electrical stocks a wireless CCTV range at /collections/wireless-cctv, alongside the wired Dahua IP and Eagle Analogue HDCVI ranges.
For professional trade installations where continuous power, uninterrupted recording, and long-term reliability are priorities, a wired system is generally the stronger specification. Wireless CCTV is suited to locations where running cable is genuinely impractical. It is worth noting that most trade-grade wireless cameras still require a cabled power supply at each camera location: the "wireless" element refers to video transmission, not a fully wire-free installation.
