CCTV Accessories: Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a monitor if I already have an NVR or DVR?

Not strictly, most NVRs and DVRs can output to any HDMI display or be viewed via a mobile app instead. A dedicated CCTV monitor like the Titus 22" is worth it where the screen needs to stay on permanently, in a control room or reception desk, rather than being switched on only when someone wants to check footage.

What's the difference between the Cat5e RJ45 plug and the Cat6 patch leads?

The RJ45 plug is a raw connector for terminating your own cable on site, used when running a fresh Cat5e cable to a camera position. The Cat6 leads are finished, ready-made patch cables for short equipment-to-equipment connections, an NVR to a switch, a switch to a monitor. Use the plug for camera runs, the patch leads for connecting kit together at the recorder end.

Can I use the BNC crimp connectors with any coaxial cable?

They're specified for RG59 and RG6 coax, the two standard cable types used on Eagle Analogue HDCVI installs. Confirm the coax type in place before ordering, an existing legacy system may use a different cable gauge that needs a different connector.

What's the LigoWave wireless link actually for?

It's a point-to-point wireless connection, not a general Wi-Fi camera solution, two radios, one at each end, that form a private link between two locations. Use it to connect a camera or a whole second building's worth of cameras back to a recorder where no cable route exists at all, rather than as an alternative to the Wireless CCTV range, which covers standalone battery cameras.

Does the Klarity extender need power at both ends?

No. Power over Ethernet from the receiver end means only the transmitter end needs a power supply, the receiver draws what it needs from the same cable carrying the signal.

Is a 10m HDMI cable reliable for a full 4K signal?

Worth checking before relying on it. Passive HDMI 2.0 cable is reliably rated for 4K at 60Hz up to around 7.5m, beyond that length signal integrity depends on whether the specific cable is actively driven. For a guaranteed 4K feed over 10m, confirm with the trade counter whether an active cable is needed, for a standard 1080p CCTV monitor feed, length isn't a concern at any of the four sizes stocked.

Do these accessories work across Dahua, Eagle Analogue and Wireless CCTV, or are they format-specific?

Mixed. The Cat5e plugs and Cat6 leads are IP/PoE-specific, for Dahua installs. The BNC crimp connectors are analogue-specific, for Eagle Analogue installs. The monitor, HDMI cables, Klarity extender and LigoWave link all work regardless of which camera system is in use.

Can I collect these same day from the Peterlee trade counter?
