What is HDCVI and why does it matter for analogue upgrades?

HDCVI (High Definition Composite Video Interface) transmits high-resolution video over standard RG59 coaxial cable. Unlike IP cameras that require Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet, HDCVI works with the cable already in place in most legacy analogue CCTV installations.

Key facts about HDCVI at Harbro:

  • Uses standard RG59 coaxial cable - no re-wiring required for upgrades
  • Transmits HD video up to approximately 500m on coax
  • 5MP Full Colour resolution - sharper than 1080p and 4MP legacy systems
  • Full Colour maintains colour imaging in low-light conditions
  • Simpler installation than IP - no network configuration required
  • Eagle DVRs are HDCVI-specific - these cameras are not HD-TVI or AHD compatible

Two kit configurations provide everything needed for a 4-camera install in a single order:

Neither kit includes coaxial cable, 12V DC power supplies for cameras, BNC connectors or mounting hardware. Call the trade counter on 0191 518 1998 for a complete accessories list before ordering.

Eagle Analogue CCTV: frequently asked questions

What protocol do Eagle Analogue cameras use?

Eagle Analogue cameras use HDCVI (High Definition Composite Video Interface). HDCVI transmits high-definition video over standard RG59 coaxial cable. This is an important specification to verify before purchase - these cameras are not HD-TVI and are not AHD. They will only work correctly with a DVR that specifies HDCVI compatibility, such as the Eagle 5MP AI DVR range at Harbro.

Can I use Eagle Analogue cameras with existing coaxial cable?

Yes. Eagle HDCVI cameras are designed to work over standard RG59 coaxial cable - the cable used in the vast majority of legacy analogue CCTV installations. An existing analogue system can usually be upgraded to 5MP Full Colour by replacing cameras and DVR, without rerouting cable. Existing cable must be in good condition and within the HDCVI transmission limit of approximately 500m per run.

What resolution are Eagle Analogue cameras?

Eagle HDCVI cameras at Harbro are 5MP Full Colour (2592 x 1944). This is significantly sharper than 1080p (2MP) and 4MP cameras from previous analogue generations. Full Colour means the camera maintains colour imaging in low-light conditions using its built-in illuminator, rather than switching to black and white as older analogue cameras do.

What is the difference between the 4-channel and 8-channel Eagle DVR?

The Eagle 4CH DVR (EAG-5MP-PRO-AI3-4BB) supports up to 4 HDCVI cameras. The 8CH DVR (EAG-5MP-PRO-AI3-8BB) supports up to 8. Both include AI smart motion detection and remote viewing via mobile app. Choose the 8CH model if more than 4 cameras may be added at any point.

Does the Eagle Analogue kit include everything I need?

The kit with 2TB hard drive includes cameras, DVR and pre-installed storage. It does not include RG59 coaxial cable, 12V DC power supplies for the cameras, BNC connectors, or mounting hardware. Call the Peterlee trade counter on 0191 518 1998 before ordering and the team will advise on a complete accessories list for your install.

Is analogue CCTV still worth installing?

Yes, in specific circumstances. Analogue HDCVI is the right choice when a property already has RG59 coaxial cable in good condition and the budget or disruption of rerouting Cat5e or Cat6 cable to every camera position is not viable. At 5MP Full Colour resolution, Eagle Analogue delivers excellent footage quality with less network configuration than IP. For new builds or properties without existing coax,Dahua IP CCTVis generally the better choice.

Can I view Eagle Analogue CCTV cameras remotely?

Yes. The Eagle AI DVRs support remote viewing via a mobile app on iOS and Android. Once connected to a broadband router, live feeds and recordings can be accessed from any location. No subscription fee is required for basic remote viewing. A static IP or dynamic DNS service is recommended for consistent remote connectivity.
