A hardwired doorbell uses a low-voltage bell circuit to connect the outdoor push button to the indoor chime via 2-core bell wire. A doorbell transformer steps mains voltage (230V AC) down to the voltage required by the bell - typically 8V AC. When the push is pressed it completes the circuit and the chime sounds. Hardwired doorbells have no batteries to replace and no wireless signal to drop - they are the most reliable long-term doorbell solution and the standard for new-build and refurbishment installs. The Byron 720K includes everything needed for a complete hardwired doorbell installation in a single kit.

Yes. The 720K includes the Classic Doorbell chime, White bell push, 8V 1A transformer, bell wire, cable clips, fixing pack and instruction manual. No separate transformer purchase is required - this is one of the few hardwired doorbell kits on the market where the transformer is included in the box. The only additional requirement is a suitable mains connection point for the transformer, which must be installed by a qualified electrician.

The Byron 720K includes an 8V 1A transformer matched to its chime. Most standard residential hardwired doorbells operate at 8V AC. Larger electro-mechanical chimes with louder output or more tone options may require 12V AC. Using the Byron 720K kit as supplied removes any compatibility uncertainty - the transformer and chime are factory-matched. If a different chime is required, additional doorbell transformers are available separately at Harbro.

The transformer installation - connecting it to the mains supply - requires a qualified electrician. Once the transformer is installed, running the 2-core bell wire from the transformer to the push position and from the transformer to the chime position, and connecting the terminals, is low-voltage work that a competent DIYer can complete using the included instructions. The bell wire operates at 8V AC from the transformer and does not require certification work.

The Byron 720K has an electro-mechanical chime that produces a traditional two-tone ding-dong at up to 85dB. A mechanical striker hits two separate notes in sequence when the push button is pressed - the same classic sound associated with traditional hardwired bell circuits. There is no ringtone selection; the 720K produces a single, consistent ding-dong sound. For multiple ringtone options, the wireless Knightsbridge DC010 offers 58 selectable tones.

Yes, provided the replacement chime is rated for 8V AC operation. The 8V 1A transformer from the 720K kit is a standard doorbell transformer and will power any bell circuit component rated at 8V AC. If a chime requiring 12V AC is needed, a separate 12V transformer is required from the Doorbell Transformer collection.
