About This Camera

What the DH-IPC-HDW1639T Is and What It Does

The Dahua DH-IPC-HDW1639T-A-IL is the entry-level camera in the Dahua WizSense range at Harbro. It shoots at 6MP (3200 x 1800), which is 3.4 times the pixel count of a 1080p camera. That resolution improvement is immediately visible when you zoom into recorded footage to check a number plate or identify a face. At this price point it is one of the most capable entry-level IP cameras available to trade.

The defining feature is Smart Dual Light. The camera contains two illuminators: infrared and warm white. In standby mode it uses IR, which avoids unnecessary light pollution. When its AI detects a human, the warm light activates and the image switches from monochrome night vision to full-colour video. This means the camera will capture clothing colour, vehicle colour and other identifying details automatically - not just a shape in the dark.

It uses a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable for both power and video via PoE (802.3af standard). No separate power supply is required at the camera position. The metal housing is IP67-rated for dust and water resistance, and the operating temperature range of -40 to +60 degrees C makes it well suited to outdoor installation in the North East.

Installation Guide

How to Install the DH-IPC-HDW1639T

  1. Plan the cable run

Run Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet from the NVR or PoE switch to each camera position. Maximum recommended run is 100m. Plan cable routes through walls, soffits or conduit before mounting the camera. Use a cable tester to verify continuity before connecting the camera.

  2. Mount the RING-J2 junction box

Fix a RING-J2 Junction Box to the wall or soffit at the camera position. Feed the Ethernet cable into the box from below. The junction box provides a weatherproof cable entry point and gives the installation a cleaner finish.

  3. Connect and mount the camera

Terminate the Ethernet cable with an RJ45 connector inside the junction box. Connect to the camera's PoE port. The camera powers up via PoE (802.3af) from the NVR or switch - no separate 12V DC supply needed for most installs. Adjust the camera angle before fully tightening the housing.

  4. Add to NVR and configure

On the Eagle AI NVR, the camera should appear as a connected device on the local network. Assign the channel, verify the live image, adjust the angle if required, then configure motion detection zones and recording schedule. Set up the DMSS mobile app for remote viewing from iOS or Android.

Frequently Asked

DH-IPC-HDW1639T: Common Questions

What does Smart Dual Light mean on this camera?

Smart Dual Light means the camera contains two separate illuminators: infrared (IR) and warm white. The default night mode uses IR only, which avoids unnecessary light output and is invisible to the human eye. When the camera's AI detects a person, the warm light activates and the image switches from black-and-white IR footage to full-colour video. This captures clothing colour, vehicle colour and other details that would be lost in a monochrome IR image.

What resolution does the DH-IPC-HDW1639T record at?

The camera records at 6MP (3200 x 1800 pixels) at up to 20fps, or at 2688 x 1520 (approximately 4MP) at 25 or 30fps. Both modes use H.265+ compression to minimise storage requirements without sacrificing detail. 6MP at 3200 x 1800 provides 3.4 times the pixel count of a standard 1080p (2MP) camera, making it considerably easier to read number plates and identify faces in recorded footage.

What cable does this camera need?

A single Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cable carries both power (via PoE, 802.3af standard) and video from the NVR or PoE switch to the camera. No separate power cable is needed. Maximum recommended run length is approximately 100m. The cable terminates at the camera with an RJ45 connector, which should be housed inside a RING-J2 junction box for weatherproof cable entry.

Does this camera record audio?

Yes. The DH-IPC-HDW1639T has a built-in microphone that records audio alongside video. It does not have a built-in speaker, so it records ambient sound at the camera position but cannot broadcast audio through the camera. For two-way audio capability, the TiOC-Lite and TiOC Pro both include a microphone and speaker.

Is this camera waterproof?

Yes. The DH-IPC-HDW1639T carries an IP67 rating: fully protected against dust (IP6x) and against temporary immersion in water to a depth of 1m for up to 30 minutes (IPx7). The metal housing operates between -40 and +60 degrees C. It requires no additional weatherproofing for standard outdoor installations in the UK.

What NVR do I need for this camera?

Any ONVIF-compatible NVR with PoE ports will work with this camera. Harbro stocks the Eagle 4CH 4K AI NVR (EAG-NVR-4K2-2AI-4) and Eagle 8CH 4K AI NVR (EAG-NVR-4K2-2AI-8BB), both of which are tested with the Dahua IP camera range and include built-in PoE ports. A complete 4-camera kit with NVR and 2TB hard drive is also available.

Can I view this camera on my phone?

Yes. When connected to an Eagle AI NVR that is linked to a broadband router, the camera is viewable via the DMSS mobile app on iOS and Android. Live viewing and recorded footage playback are both available. No subscription fee is required for basic remote access. A static IP address or dynamic DNS service is recommended for consistent remote connectivity from outside the local network.

What is the difference between this camera and the TiOC models?

The DH-IPC-HDW1639T is the entry-level WizSense camera. It detects humans, activates its warm light for colour recording, and is excellent for evidence capture. It does not have active deterrence. The TiOC-Lite (8MP) adds a warm light flash and sound alarm to warn off potential intruders. The TiOC Pro (6MP) adds red and blue strobe lights, a siren, customisable voice prompts and full two-way audio. If deterring as well as recording is a requirement, choose a TiOC model.
