About Peel Tec

What Peel Tec Is and Why It Works

Peel Tec is a paint remover spray made by C-Tec, the same UK manufacturer behind the CT1 sealant range. It comes as a 500ml aerosol with a precision nozzle that puts an even film exactly where you need it. Spray it on, wait around 10 minutes, and the coating lifts away cleanly. No heat, no harsh solvents, no mechanical scratching.

The big reason Peel Tec has replaced traditional strippers on trade vans is the formulation. It is 100% Methyl Chloride free. Methyl Chloride (dichloromethane) is the active agent in most legacy paint strippers and has been progressively restricted across the EU and UK on health grounds. Peel Tec delivers comparable speed without the escalated PPE and ventilation requirements that dichloromethane products legally require.

Heat-gun stripping scorches timber and warps UPVC. Mechanical scraping leaves chatter marks in metal. Aggressive chemical strippers can etch through to the substrate. Peel Tec lifts the coating without touching what's underneath, so the surface is genuinely re-coatable when you're done: no remedial filling, no sanding before primer.

What It Does

What Peel Tec Removes and What It's Safe On

Based on manufacturer data and trade-counter customer feedback.

Coatings it removes

  • Emulsion paint
  • Gloss paint
  • Masonry paint
  • Primer & undercoat
  • Varnish
  • Polyurethane finishes
  • Lacquer
  • Cured silicone sealant
  • Adhesive residue
  • Graffiti spray paint

Surfaces it's safe on

  • Timber: interior & exterior
  • MDF
  • Mild steel & ironwork
  • Aluminium
  • Lead
  • Brick & stone
  • Concrete
  • Glass
  • Heavily painted UPVC: test first
  • Industrial powder coatings: test first

Always test an inconspicuous area first on UPVC, plastics, and specialist industrial coatings. Peel Tec works best on targeted areas; on very large surfaces or multiple heavy layers, a second application will be needed and cost-effectiveness decreases.

Application Guide

How to Use Peel Tec

  1. Prepare the work area

Mask off anything you don't want stripped. Lay dust sheets. Ensure the area is ventilated and put on gloves and eye protection. Peel Tec is Methyl Chloride free but is still an aerosol chemical product, so basic PPE applies.

  2. Shake and spray

Shake the can well. Hold the aerosol about 200mm from the surface and apply an even coat through the precision nozzle. A consistent film works better than over-saturating the surface.

  3. Allow 10 minutes to react

Leave the product to work. The coating will visibly bubble and pull away from the substrate as the bond breaks. Multiple layers or old, thick finishes may need 15 minutes or a second pass.

  4. Scrape clean and degrease

Use a scraper or putty knife to lift the softened coating. Wipe down with a cloth, then degrease the surface before re-coating. C-Tec's MultiSolve is designed exactly for this final step and is available at the same trade counter.

Peel Tec: Harbro vs B&Q, Toolstation & Wickes

Peel Tec is a C-Tec product stocked by a range of trade and DIY retailers. Here's how the options compare for a North East trade buyer.

Retailer Customer type Collection Trade account Rest of C-Tec range
Harbro Electrical Trade-first wholesale Same-day, Peterlee trade counter Yes, invoiced trade pricing Full range: Peel Tec, CT1, BT1, FC1, MultiSolve
Toolstation Trade & DIY generalist Click & collect Trade account available Selected lines only
B&Q DIY + TradePoint card In-store or click & collect TradePoint Limited C-Tec lines
Wickes DIY + TradePro card In-store or click & collect TradePro Limited C-Tec lines

For a North East trade customer the main practical difference is range depth. The national chains stock Peel Tec but not always the full C-Tec line-up, so you'd need a second stop for CT1, BT1 or MultiSolve. At Harbro's Peterlee counter the whole range is in one place, and the trade-counter team can advise on the right product rather than directing you to whatever's on the shelf.

Frequently Asked

Peel Tec: Common Questions

What is Peel Tec?

Peel Tec is a paint and coating remover spray by C-Tec, the manufacturer behind the CT1 sealant range. Supplied as a 500ml aerosol with a precision nozzle, it lifts paint, varnish, polyurethane and cured silicone from most substrates in roughly 10 minutes. It is 100% Methyl Chloride free.

What coatings does Peel Tec remove?

Emulsion, gloss, masonry paint, primer, varnish, polyurethane finishes, lacquer, cured silicone sealant, adhesive residue and graffiti. It works across wood, metal (including lead), brick, concrete and glass. It is less effective on heavily layered UPVC and some industrial powder coatings: test first in both cases.

How long does Peel Tec take to work?

Around 10 minutes on a single standard coat. Multiple layers, heavy masonry paint or old aged finishes may need a second application or a longer dwell time. Always wait for the coating to fully lift before scraping.

Is Peel Tec safe to use indoors?

Peel Tec is Methyl Chloride free, making it significantly safer than traditional dichloromethane strippers. It still requires ventilation, eye protection and gloves. Follow the safety data sheet supplied with the product.

Will it damage the surface underneath the paint?

No. The formulation is designed to break the bond between the coating and the substrate without etching or scratching the substrate itself. The surface is clean and ready to re-coat (degrease first with MultiSolve). Always test on a small inconspicuous area before committing to the full surface.

Is Peel Tec available at B&Q, Toolstation or Wickes?

It is stocked at B&Q (in store and online) and by specialist sealant suppliers. It is not currently listed at Screwfix or Toolstation. Harbro Electrical stocks the 500ml aerosol at trade pricing with same-day collection from our Peterlee counter and UK mainland delivery from £5.99.

How much is Peel Tec at Harbro?

£9.99 + VAT (£11.99 inclusive) per 500ml aerosol. Trade account holders receive invoiced trade pricing at checkout.
